Enlightened.thinker : Light-plerker What's your dream job? Describe it.

What's your dream job? Describe it.

Posted on Mar 23rd, 2007 by Enlightened.thinker : Light-plerker Enlightened.thinker
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for March 22, 2007:

What would I do if it did not matter that I got paid to do it? What would I do for "free"? My brother used to call his job: Plerk. (play and work combined) The word " job" sounds so negative, so oppressive. I would like to facilitate people to "think" and become aware of the awesome beauty of their lives. Through facilitating thinking, the person comes to their own conclusions about ideas and through this inductive reasoning, learns and I'd like to do it in a bus motorhome all over the country!

I asked some 18 year old students would they rather work a job they hated for big money, or job they loved for less.... surprisingly, most said the latter.

It is like the question, how many people would choose security over freedom? (do we really have either?) This is always worth pondering.

~ whats plerk… n where is zaadz dictionary…  oh i just read it…  play n work.. love it…

now listen… there is no such a thing as FREE anything…  yes i know i use it myself but its an illusion if we ask: What would I do for “free”? as everything is energy including $$$ n we always get something out n if not dollars then lessons, fun, enjoyment or what ever… but most people r blind to this not realizing that when they do “volunteer service for free” its cuz it makes them feel good about themselves or they wonna save the world or what ever else but there is a reason…

n thats what i feel ~Brians biggest “job” is to contribute to a shift of consciousness on the entire planet when it comes to a marrage of spirituality n capitalism… hmm… Spiritual Capitalism… interesting… just felt a shift in me now versus when i read Conscious Capitalism…  never mind… the point i m making as i said is that not everyone can c this…  to most people we need to spell it out n thats why i m looking forward to zPro as this way we r clear on both ends (well not that some of us havent been clear before but…) what each offers n contributes so we have equal exchange of energy “on paper”

now the last but not the least to that question: “I asked some 18 year old students would they rather work a job they hated for big money, or job they loved for less…. surprisingly, most said the latter.”

my answer: i choose to plerk a “job” i LOVE for big $,$$$.$$$ period!!! ^.^

I just left my job (and very decent salary ) as a commercial real estate attorney to dive into my plerk (with no steady income), which is a combination of organic catering, vegan baking and nutrition consulting. Those are the things that I LOVE!!! Some people think I'm crazy, but I'm very in love with my life right now and whatever happens, oh well…at least I get to put all my love out to the world!

I think the trick here is to not conceive of it as:

bad job/good pay OR good job/less money

ditto for security OR freedom

when we think in polarities, I believe we hinder the possibility of win/win situations – three years ago, I quit a miserable job that paid fairly well – now I work for myself doing what I truly love, and I make better money than I did before   :)

You are never given a wish
without also being given
the power to make it come true.
You may have to work for it, however.

Wow! Plerk! What a great concept.

That's really only happened to me once. But it did happen once! That's more than most folks. I built my own log house in the woods – you can see it at http://www.loghomeventure.com – and I had the luxury of spending an entire year doing it myself. I can't tell you how much satisfaction comes with doing your own plerk!

Now, I'm trying to build that into my daily life. Getting there…Hope you are too. We all deserve it.

When you mentioned choosing security over freedom, as if we have a choice, I was thinking how much energy this culture puts into selling financial security and how our lives are controlled by fear. Why not start a campaign for spiritual security. That would be a lot harder to take away.

WOW thanks everyone! I love a good discussion!!! Sure wish I could get my literature students to open up like this! Students are taught from a young age that they need to be “right” and not to say what they think..it is hard to break old habits!

Duality/polarity is a “western ” concept that is hard to break away from(especially when one is ingrained in the idea for many years) but yes, unity is the key. William Blake's poetry tries to unite “warring opposites” and asks us not to choose between the two.

Yes! Let's start a campaign for spiritual security.I have regained my sense of community since joining zaadz. I was missing a piece of myself that could not be filled and I feel “home”.  Today I had an epithany right in the middle of a discussion of a story in class! (Rather embarassing as it shook me so much that I lost my train of thought) But it was a spiritual moment….and I wondered also at the time if it was my kundalini moving up my spine one more notch!

I have not felt this inspired in a very long time….Thanks. Namaste

There are more opportunities now for creating businesses than there has ever been, now we have the internet, mobiles and world wide trade to help us.

There are so few people doing it that are loads of opportunities and chances to do what you want and make money at the same time.

Question is - what happens if everybody left their comfy jobs and just went for it - the market would be a lot harder to make money in because most imbalances would be sorted - nature hates vacuums.

Perhaps we're all basking in this glory of abundance and forgetting what it would be like if everybody was going for it.  Thank goodness everybody's fears and laziness keeps them under the thumb and the world is still a lovely abundant place to do what you want and make a living from it.  8=)

My first dream job is fading.  I've been a video store maven for the last 15 years.  It hasn't been brain surgery, but I love movies and I love people.  I am working on my yoga teaching certification now and beginning to teach yoga.  So I am leaving one source of plerk and hopefully doing another.  Wish me luck!

Can I make a living from it?  I don't know, but I'll find out.

I think you were kidding, but not sure…seemed to be a lot of “fear” in that line too :)

As someone who is actively creating those Internet business autopilot income streams so I can focus on plerks AND income, I hope EVERYONE does do it.

Nobody is going to do – or know – what I do. We're all unique. The great thing about my plerk is that it's probably not your plerk. I can only hope that the imbalances are restored. Just imagine if everyone were doing what they wanted happily…

No war…
No poverty…
No anger…

Dave:

Your point today is most interesting due to a discussion in my classroom that left me taken aback. Today we were discussing Alexander Solzhenitzyn's Nobel lecture in 1970 and his idea that beauty can save the world (aesthetic-art, writing etc) by offering the world the opportunity to grown in understanding from each other's offering to these fields.

I asked the question” Can beauty save the world”, what do you think? Usually, they sit poker-faced and don't respond, because they don't really know what to think…and I said “Do I ever say to anyone here…you are wrong??” They agreed I never did.

So a few brave souls spoke up….they told me that the culture of which they are a part shows them it is better to be silent, not to “Get involved” and watch out only for themselves. They told me that it is not worth it, life is too stressful to worry over someone else and their problems, and that there is the “fear” that they might get sued if they ever tried to help a person who was in need.

So once again fear raises its dirty head. False Evidence Appearing Real. (F>E>A>R>) If we attach ourself through indoctrination, it rules our very lives. This time, I wanted to say to them” “No, you are wrong!!!” But then I'd be shutting them down from ever commenting again. I did elicit surprise and ask for clarification and try to draw them out through more inquiry, but they stood firm.

We need to plerk to illuminate the dark corners of mind….

I don't believe beauty alone can save the world but a spot of hard work and personal growth can which helps you appreciate others' situations.

I really would find it so hard to go back to work for anyone, no matter what the pay.

I spoke to a friend, who is one of the top computer programmers in London on well into a 6 figure salary in sterling.  He said he wasn't happy with his job (Just Over Broke) but said he wouldn't be able to do anything else because he would have to change his good lifestyle so would rather stick with the 3 hours commute each day and long hours.  The thought of doing anything else with a lower salary, no matter what or how happy it makes him, just won't get in to his head and he's a clever man.  He has a job and goes to work - does that make him a “wob” ?

What's going on ?

“Question is - what happens if everybody left their comfy jobs and just went for it - the market would be a lot harder to make money in because most imbalances would be sorted - nature hates vacuums.”

Here's my answer: if everyone left their comfy jobs and just went for it (whatever IT happens to be for them), we would live in a world full of love, joy, peace, integrity and awe.

We would go to an auto shop without fear of being ripped off and we'd be greeted by an honest mechanic, one who CHOSE to work there because he or she has a knack and a passion for fixing engines, enjoys the challenge and derives pleasure from providing good service to people so they can get to their passionate plerk on time.

Then we would leave the auto shop with complete trust that we were charged fairly and that our car was in good hands and fixed properly and maybe even walk away with a little smile on our face.

Then we would go to an organic coffee shop, the happy plerk-fulfilled person leaving would hold the door open for us on his way out, and the barista behind the counter would match our smile with his/hers and ask us, with genuine intent and desire, what we want. And they would make us the best damn cup of coffee because they care about what they do, they care about being fully present, giving 100% of themselves and living up to their best in everything they do, big or small.

They understand the importance of being accountable, responsible and authentic in every aspect of their lives, in everything they do. They understand this because they have faced their fears head on, they have challenged and struggled and broken through them to get to the other side where there is no turning back to mediocrity, no turning back to laziness, no turning back to complacency.

And we would understand because we've done the same. And we would smile and thank the barista with genuine heartfelt gratitude and we would tip a little extra because our hearts were opened, even if we didn't know exactly why, we'd feel a little more loving, a little more giving and a little more connected than when we walked in. And we'd hold the door open on our way out for the next person coming in.

I have no fear that it would be alot harder to make money or that there wouldn't be anyone doing the “menial” jobs (another argument I've heard before). Not everyone wants to be multi-millionaire business owners. The mechanic I spoke of is a real person I know. The barista I spoke of is a real person I know. They are extremely happy, conscious people and would not make a change if we paid them a million dollars! They ARE living their dreams, they ARE fulfilling their place in this world and they ARE NOT making it any harder for me to live my own dreams. On the contrary, they are actually very inspiring and uplifting.
We all have different dreams, different passions, talents and skills. We all have different ideas and levels of being of service.  And we all are constantly growing, evolving and changing. This is all evident in Cathy's comment. Her dream was to be a video store maven (congrats on achieving that one, Cathy!) and now it's to be a yoga instructor. Not everyone wants to be either of those.

Just because we can all follow our dreams doesn't mean we're all going to want the same thing. There is PLENTY of room for everyone, there is PLENTY of money to go around for everyone, and there is PLENTY of dreams to be fulfilled for everyone.

And even if we all did want to be multimillionaires, there is still PLENTY of money for all of us. Multimillionaires do not shove their money in a mattress and hide it from the light of day. They invest in real estate, stocks, etc. Their money is circulating on the market, going around and around, other people are using it, touching it and circulating it too. People make money off their own money as well as other people's money. Money is constantly flowing here and there and everywhere and being distributed and circulated through multiple hands and multiple avenues.

Someone who has say, 14 million dollars, cannot account for every single dollar they have. It's usually not liquid, not in the form of hard solid cash, it's in the stock market (which other people are using in some way, shape or form), banks (which other people are using in some way, shape or form), real estate (which other people are using in some way, shape or form), and on and on.  So just that one millionaire's money is being used by others and circulated for others, helping others live and get rich too.

In terms of the market, its imbalances and vacuums, I say let that market topple over. That market, the one that needs rich and poor, the one as we know it, is not the only way a market can be. Just because that's the way our economy has been thus far, it doesn't have to be that way. Before money was invented, people used to barter goods and services. That was a different market structure and they thought the idea of using something new such as money to exchange was ridiculous. And look at us now, we can't even imagine a world without money.

If we all expand our thinking, open our minds (and especially our hearts), we can ALL, each and every single last one of us, make a damn good cup of coffee!

Peace and Blessings to you, Big D, and all of you!

Teresa, be as long as you want because you said it well.  If we could all chose to do what we wanted without regard to how much money, it would be something different for each of us!  We may not see it in our lifetime, but I think we are beginning to see the change come around as more of us age and realize that life is not all about money.

Across the street from my apartment building is an independent coffee shop.  The father and son owners roast their organic beans every Wednesday and fill the neighborhood with the most amazing aroma.  They and their baristas are always smiling.  Last week the father apologized several times to a friend and me while we stood behind a few other people in line.  Like Teresa said, these are exactly the type of people I love to buy from.

When I sit down to a session with a client, I know that person gets everything I can possibly bring.  There is no greater reward.  Gee, it feels so good to smile and be light when the session is suddenly over.

Curious, wanted to ask Princess since our phone conversation…I didnt see any natural villages stuff in there, altho I viewed an incredible group of photos I thot were to be included with our work…fyi just chekcing in, cause I am leaving for SD this week and will be harder to reach…
thanks again for all this wonderful, visible and profoundly soft and kind and naturally expanding work everyone is doing here! a namaste with great love.  Also to the above brilliant post that I myself have thought through a few times (hence the evolution of natural villages) that because even people with mental and physical challenges can simply build these 100% natural and recycled earth based homes…this make profoundly meaningful work for homeless, elderly, challenged and for differently abled people…so please do view our sustainability camp pages, and know that this program can be operated anywhere in the world for the purpose of natural home and food village production while homeless, differntly abled and vulneralble populations of people actually can get served deeply in the heart, mind, body and soul through the outbreak of these building sustainability camp villages…so…. love again…and thanks again…

This thread has been sent out as a link in the latest newsletter so I think a lot more people will be checking it out. I think it would be very interesting to have some formal Plerk! function (look out Facebook!) as part of this website. May I formally propose the following:

Plerk! a community section wherein members describe their own Plerk and where others advise or contribute encouragement. The goal is a community collaboration to help all members achieve their own Plerky satisfaction.

As for technical details, it could easily be a refurbished 'project management' function where there is a percentage indicator and the goal is to have achieved breakeven in the newly chosen dream-work. The individual could have the ability to create their own milestones along the way (points of recognition that something significant has been achieved along the way) these act as placemarks in the narrative. By browsing the milestones others who are on a new path can see what things made a difference as 'lessons learned'. These could be browsed independently or within Plerk categories grouped in type of Plerk.

Viewers who are already in their chosen Plerk could browse through their category in search of those who have started their path and have questions or need some support.

Example: A person is interested to start their own coffee shop. They read through other examples of people who started their own small business, or coffee shop or small food retail. They could read the entire narrative, just the milestones, or read groups of milestones from everyone else who has started a small coffee shop.

The person might even discover from someone who started and 'failed' how to avoid the same pitfalls or even decide if the reality matches up to their own dream.

Those who have 'succeeded' may even want to become a mentor and help coach the prospective Plerker to achieve their dreams.

I'm not sure of the legailty of this, but, some dreams require money. As the narrative grows others could participate in the dream by contributing to specific goals. Like with Chip-In.

I always am pleased to find people who do he same plerk I do and we can share ideas. My job is lonely, I teach college literature…(among other things) I think a place where others could come for advisement or idea for lessons etc could be valuable and I can see that entrepreneuers would really find a place lke this effective.

I wonder if you should offer this idea in the think tank?

I find it quite a stimulating one.
